Mentoring

While group learning contexts are often fun, informative and inspirational, it is generally difficult to get one-to-one advice and criticism. Doing so can advance not only a specific piece but also the direction of writing work and the crucial but often neglected development of an effective pattern of working.

I have in the past and continue to benefit from ongoing mentoring from writers more advanced in their professional lives than I am. I have, in turn, been able to provide mentoring opportunities to early-career writers working in travel writing, literary fiction and illustrated children's fiction, providing detailed criticism on specific pieces and drawing their attention to support networks, market considerations, genre conventions and personal working styles.

I can offer any format of mentoring – from full manuscript appraisal to one hour consultation, a structured series of tailored lessons or just someone to talk to every once in a while. My fee is negotiable based on circumstances.
